Frequently Asked Questions

  • If I do not pass the knowledge test given at the High School, do I have to go to MVC to retake the test?
  • If you are 16, you must contact a driving school to take the knowledge test. In The Driver's Seat Driving School is MVC approved to give the knowledge test in our office. We are also approved to administer the vision test to our students. This means no more waiting in long lines at MVC! In The Driver's Seat does not charge a fee to our students who take the knowledge and vision tests. Please call to schedule your test date.
  • What happens if my permit is lost or damaged?
  • It is important to know, an original permit is necessary while practice driving and on the day of your road test. If your permit is lost or stolen, we suggest you contact your local police department to report it to prevent someone else from using it. For a duplicate permit, please contact your driving school.
  • How does insurance work?
  • During your driving instruction, you are fully insured with our driving school under our policy, which is the maximum allowed. After completing six hours of driving instruction, we give all students an insurance discount certificate to present to your insurance company. Contact your provider on what discounts will apply to you while you have a permit and then once you receive your license.
  • If I am 16, what times can I drive and with whom while I have my permit?
  • Students who are age 16 can drive from 5am to 11pm. You can drive with someone who has their license for at least three years and over 21 years of age. You may only drive with people from the same residence and one other passenger.
  • What type of car is acceptable for the road test?
  • The break must be accessible for the tester to reach in case of an emergency. If you have a console in between the two front seats, there must be an emergency break. If there is no console, the examiner must be able to reach the brake or you will be rejected. It is at the discretion of the examiner. You cannot use a rental car. Remember to bring proper insurance and registration of the vehicle you are using.
